Queen refuses help at 93-years-old to plant tree – ‘I’m capable’ | Royal | News

arrived in Cambridge on Tuesday to officially open the new Royal Papworth Hospital and to carry out a tour of the city. The Queen was filmed defiantly refusing help as she planted a tree and was overheard saying she was “still perfectly capable”. Posting the video on social media Daily Express royal correspondent Richard Palmer wrote: “At 93 the Queen is still insistent that she is up to a staple part of the job.

“Rejecting an offer of help, she says: ‘No, no, I’m still perfectly capable of planting a tree’.”

Online commentators were quick to praise the Queen for refusing any help while on her visit.

One wrote: “She is one extraordinary amazing woman.”

Another added: “Awesome woman our Queen.”

A third said: “Her Majesty is such an inspiration. God Save the Queen!”

The Monarch planted the tree while on a visit to the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB) near Cambridge to celebrate its centenary.

She planted the tree to mark the occasion, moving some soil onto the plant’s roots in an already-dug hole.

The Queen had earlier viewed an exhibition celebrating 100 years of crop research and toured a glasshouse.

The visit follows news of the hospital receiving a royal title to become Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2017.

Professor Wallwork said of the visit: “It will be a huge honour to welcome Her Majesty to our hospital.

“We are all very excited to show off our fantastic new building and demonstrate the amazing levels of care our patients receive.

“For us, it will be lovely for our staff to have the opportunity to meet HM The Queen and explain how the work they do makes such a difference to people’s lives.”
