Novak Djokovic vs Yoshihito Nishioka LIVE: Australian Open updates after Serena loses | Tennis | Sport

Djokovic vs Nishioka LIVE

Djokovic* 6-3 6-2 Nishioka*

Of course he can. 35 seconds it took him to serve out for the set. No points dropped. That’s utterly bonkers.

Djokovic 6-3 5-2 Nishioka*

Some poor play from Nishioka and Djokovic immediately exploits for the double break.

Djokovic* 6-3 4-2 Nishioka

Yet again another perfect service game for Djokovic. Can he got the entire set without dropping a point on serve?

Djokovic* 6-3 3-1 Nishioka

Not this time though. ANOTHER love-service game for the Serbian. He’s on top form here in Melbourne.

Djokovic 6-3 2-1 Nishioka*

The world No 75 has looked good in parts on his own serve but he needs to find something different on Djokovic’s serve.

Djokovic* 6-3 2-0 Nishioka

That’s four love-service games now. Nishioka just has no answer here at all.

Djokovic 6-3 1-0 Nishioka*

Some frustration from Djokovic there as he feels Nishioka was getting the rubber of the green but he eventually gets the break again.

Djokovic* 6-3 Nishioka

And that’s the first set done with complete ease for the seven-time Australian Open champion. He dropped just one point on serve!

Djokovic* 5-3 Nishioka*

Nishioka will be pleased he isn’t being blown away here in the first set but that is partly due to Djokovic reserving some energy here.

Djokovic* 5-2 Nishioka

This is childs play for Djokovic here. He’s playing with a smile on his face and looks completely at home on this court.

Djokovic 4-2 Nishioka*

Appears as though Djokovic takes a step back now he already has the break of serve in the set but still impressive tennis from Nishioka so that he’s not blown away.

Djokovic* 4-1 Nishioka

But there’s no opening for the Japanese tennis star on Djokovic’s serve as he picks up another love-service game.

Djokovic 3-1 Nishioka*

That was some superb defence from Nishioka with Djokovic sending him scampering around the court before smashing a winner past the world No 2 and then getting himself on the board.

Djokovic* 3-0 Nishioka

Certainly doesn’t look like a shock will be on the cards here. Djokovic in cruise control and Nishioka is struggling to keep up.

Djokovic 2-0 Nishioka*

First break point opportunity for Djokovic and he takes it as Nishioka sends one wide.

Djokovic* 1-0 Nishioka

As straight forward as they come for Djokovic to open the match with a love-service game.

4:55am: Players are now on court for their warm-up. Nishioka noticeably took a look at some of the names of all the winners at the Australian Open. Just the seven for Djokovic…

4:40am: Could that set a precedent for today? Another shock on the cards perhaps to follow? It’s unlikely Novak Djokovic will fall but Qiang Wang’s win will have given Yoshihito Nishioka a small boost.

Players will be due on court shortly so stay tuned.

4:34am: No tiebreak needed! Qiang Wang has pulled it off with the third match point opportunity! Incredible stuff from the No 27 seed.

4:20am: This is going to the wire between Wang and Serena! Neither player giving in here in the third set. We’re inching towards a tiebreak…

3.40am: We’re going to have to wait a little longer for Djokovic now as Serena Williams has come back to force a third set. The 23-time Grand Slam champion looked down and out!

3:25am: Serena Williams had dropped the first set against Wang Qiang and was a break down in the second but has come back to level it up. Terrific stuff from the American to battle back.

Good morning, evening or afternoon depending on where you’re tuning in from and welcome to Express Sport’s live blog for Novak Djokovic’s third round clash against Yoshihito Nishioka.

Djokovic has looked on top form so far through the opening two rounds and shouldn’t be too troubled by the Japanese tennis star.

The match will follow the conclusion of Serena Williams’ tie against Wang Qiang. Stay tuned as we bring you live updates from the match.
