Man Utd coaching staff surprised by one thing about Paul Pogba amid Ed Woodward decision | Football | Sport

Manchester United star Pogba has done nothing to hide his admiration for Real Madrid and, over at the Bernabeu, the feeling is mutual.

The World Cup winner is wanted by Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane amid the club’s dire pre-season tour, where they have looked vulnerable at the back and short up top.

There is a sense at Real Madrid that both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are past their prime and that has led them into pursuing Pogba for most of the summer.

And the Daily Mail say Manchester United coaching staff are surprised that the France international is still at the club.

Pogba continues to divide public opinion.

He was at his bulldozing best as United swept Chelsea aside in their Premier League opener on Sunday, assisting goals for Marcus Rashford and Daniel James.

But after the game he plunged his future into uncertainty, saying: “Obviously there have been things said but only time will tell.

“This question mark remains. However, as I said, I am here in Manchester.

“I enjoy playing with my teammates and I always want to win every game.

“I always give it everything. I am always good whenever I play football. It is what I love – it is my job. I give the maximum each time I am on a green pitch.”

The report says United believe Real Madrid cannot afford to fork out for Pogba.

The La Liga giants last week failed with an offer of £27million plus James Rodriguez for the 26-year-old.

And United chief Woodward is sticking to his guns and is reluctant to let the player go for anything less than £170m.

Meanwhile, ESPN reporter Ian Darke believes the Red Devils should only let Pogba go if they receive an offer that is ‘through the roof’.

“I don’t think they can [sell him] really,” he said.

“They didn’t replace Ander Herrera, which remains a bit of a mystery to me. I think they should have broken the bank to get Bruno Fernandes.

“He’s a fantastic player in Portugal, and he never got a move anywhere. He’s exactly the kind of player Manchester United needed.

“I don’t think they can let him go unless they receive a ‘through the roof’ offer from Real Madrid that is just too good for them to refuse, considering how much they paid to sign him.

“I don’t think that will happen now because United can’t replace him.

“Look who was alongside him yesterday [Sunday], [Scott] McTomminay and [Andreas] Pereira. That cupboard is looking very thin without Pogba.”
