Barcelona contacted by Man Utd over Ivan Rakitic transfer – but there’s a problem | Football | Sport

Barcelona have been contacted by Manchester United about a potential transfer deal for Ivan Rakitic, according to reports.

The Croatia international has struggled for game time at the Nou Camp this season, with manager Ernesto Valverde often preferring the likes of Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Arthur Melo and Arturo Vidal.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Barcelona star in the past with the club big admirers of the way he can dictate games in the middle of the park.

And Catalan newspaper Sport say United have contacted Barcelona about a deal for the veteran.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is supposedly keen to bring an experienced midfielder to Old Trafford amid the team’s struggles in that department.

Scott McTominay has been a shining light for United this season.

But the likes of Andreas Pereira, Fred and Nemanja Matic have all struggled with injuries also preventing Paul Pogba from kicking on.

However, the report says United have a problem when it comes to signing Rakitic.

While Barcelona are open to letting the midfielder go they feel they can get a higher fee for him when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

And Inter Milan have also contacted the Catalan giants about the possibility of snapping up the 31-year-old.

Rakitic was recently asked about his Barcelona future and admitted he was desperate to play on a more regular basis.

“I don’t know what’s next. It’s hard and embarrassing,” he said.

“I want to play for Barcelona and not just be part of the team. I will do my best to try to change this situation in the next games.

“I have a contract for a couple more years, there is no better place to play than Barcelona, the best club in the world.

“But I want to play and not enjoy walking around the city and enjoying the sea.

“The truth is, I talked to the people at the club, everyone knew about the other options I had, it was no secret.

“I still wish all the best to Barcelona, but I want to fight, for the team to see that I am ready whenever I need to run out onto the pitch and do my best.”

“But if I see that nothing can change, then we will sit down and talk again.”

As well as United and Inter, Juventus have also been tipped to move for the Barcelona veteran.
