China coronavirus latest: Is China in lockdown? New outbreak recorded | World | News

Coronavirus was first found in China at the start of 2020, as the rest of the world watched in horror as cases of the mysterious new COVID-19 emerged in Wuhan. But despite being the original epicentre of the virus, China has done comparatively well in combatting the deadly virus.

But the road to elimination is not yet complete for China after a new outbreak this weekend.

An outbreak of 137 asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 has been traced at a garment factory in the north-western region of Xinjiang.

No cases of people with symptoms have yet been reported – although this is disputed, with some believing the Chinese Government are covering up to avoid scrutiny.

According to the Guardian, Chinese nationals have been asking on China-specific social media platforms about the transparency of officials.

China’s central bank governor Yi Gang said on Sunday that officials predict annual growth of about two percent.

He said: “The Chinese economy remains resilient with great potential. Continued recovery is anticipated, which will benefit the global recovery.”

As of Sunday, mainland China had 85,810 confirmed coronavirus cases.

China’s COVID-19 death toll stands at 4,634.

Worldwide, there have now been some 1.15 million recorded deaths from coronavirus.
