Exotic animal owner who appeared in Netflix series Tiger King is arrested in New York | US News

A fugitive who appeared on the Netflix series Tiger King has been arrested after sharing photos of exotic animals from his sanctuary to someone who later reported him.

Timothy Stark from Indiana was arrested by Granville Police in New York, according to the Post-Star newspaper.

The 55-year-old lost his licence in June after officials said he left animals without adequate care, food or water, the US channel WHAS-TV reports.

Officials say Stark moved two dozen animals from his sanctuary before authorities could take them.

He is also accused of threatening and grabbing an official during a property inspection.

The person who Stark shared the photos with conducted some internet research and discovered there were warrants out for his arrest, Sergeant Ryan Pedone from Granville Police said.

Stark awaits extradition proceedings at Washington County jail in New York before he faces battery and contempt charges in Indiana.

Authorities have said Stark told them that the contempt charge was the result of him swearing at a judge during a hearing.

A court had reportedly ordered all of the animals belonging to Stark’s Wildlife in Need organisation in Charlestown, Indiana, to be moved by the Indianapolis Zoological Society in September.

The judge’s contempt order states Stark “voiced his strong desire in open court to re-locate the animals in his own way”, according to US media reports.

The Netflix series Tiger King followed the life of Joe Exotic of the G.W. Zoo in Oklahoma and other collectors of exotic animals.
