What Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told friends about Jadon Sancho and Man Utd | Football | Sport

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly told close friends he expected Jadon Sancho to join Manchester United this summer. The Borussia Dortmund star was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils ended up missing out after failing to stump up the cash.

Manchester United spent the whole summer chasing a deal for Sancho, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convinced the England international could shine alongside Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial in his attack.

However, the Red Devils ultimately missed out with the club failing to pay the 20-year-old’s huge £108million asking price.

Liverpool were also linked with Sancho earlier in the summer but, in the end, settled for the signings of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota instead.

United, for their part, used their funds on giving Edinson Cavani a huge salary – with the Paris Saint-Germain legend arriving on a free transfer.

And The Athletic say Klopp told friends he expected United to sign Sancho this summer, which ultimately stopped Liverpool from going in for him.

However, that didn’t happen.

United are content with their transfer business behind the scenes, believing they’ve spent well despite missing out on Sancho.

But supporters online are disgruntled and, on Monday night as the transfer window drew to a close, the hashtag ‘GlazersOutWoodwardOut’ was trending on Twitter.

Sancho wanted to move to Old Trafford.

But he was never going to force a transfer, being grateful for Dortmund for all they’ve done for him in his career so far.

Earlier in the summer, Klopp praised Sancho but admitted that Liverpool were unlikely to go after the England international and rival United for his signature.

“A red jersey would look very good on Jadon Sancho,” he told Bild. “But I don’t think such a transfer will take place this summer.

“He is a very interesting player. If he moved to Liverpool, I would be the most surprised of all.”

United YouTuber Mark Goldbridge recently went viral for his rant about United signing Cavani instead of Sancho – accusing the club of ‘trying to spin’ things.

“Oh my life,” he said on the United Stand YouTube channel.

“It gets worse. ‘Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity’. He’s been a great opportunity for eight f***ing months. He’s been a free agent for eight months.

“You are full of s***. Who is running this football club? Seriously! This is not about Cavani, I hope he works really well, but who is putting this spinny b******* out there?

“Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity’ in inverted commas from Fabrizio Romano. That’s from the club! ‘Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity’. Oh my life.

“And they’re going to pay €10 million in agent fees. We don’t bloody learn, people. This is a bloody joke. We are being torn apart. This football club is being torn apart by d********.

“Unbelievable. It’s the money we waste on these sort of things. Who do they think you are? They must think you’re a bloody idiot.

“Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity 48 hours before the end of a transfer window when they’ve messed it up. He’s been available for eight months. Nobody else bloody wants him. It’s a great opportunity!?

“It’s like going to a bloody buffet or a christening or whatever or a party and you’re late to the table and you go through the plates and there’s nothing there apart from a mouldy, broken Pringle that nobody wants.

“United put it on their plate and go: ‘Look at this, it’s fine dining. What a great opportunity’. It’s not a great opportunity, nobody else wants him and neither did you! You could have got him eight months ago.

“You could have got him eight weeks ago. You could have got him eight days ago. You’re getting him now because you’re desperate. Stop trying to bloody spin it as the deal of the century.

“You’re going to pay his agent €10 million. What the bloody hell are you doing!? He’s free! It’s the business side of the deal that really winds me up! We are so bad, we are so bad.”
